Bridgetown, Barbados – Tuesday 11th August 2026 — The Barbados Tridents today announced a season-long tribute to Sir Garfield Sobers, one of the greatest cricketers the game has ever produced, as part of the franchise's commitment to celebrating Barbados's cricketing heritage during CPL 2026.
For the duration of the season, the men's team will carry a dedicated Sir Garfield Sobers tribute logo on their playing jersey — a permanent mark of respect for a man whose legacy remains central to the identity of Barbadian cricket.
The tribute extends beyond the jersey. The Tridents will work closely with Cricket Legends of Barbados across the season to help raise awareness of the island's rich cricketing history and the organisation's ongoing work preserving it. Further details on this collaboration will be announced in the coming weeks.
The franchise will also introduce, for the first time, a Fan Replica jersey, made in Barbados, priced competitively to ensure as many Barbadians as possible are able to represent the national colours this season.
“Sir Garfield Sobers truly was the greatest, both on and off the field. Whilst Sir Garry's on-field talents and accolades are unparalleled, his character, humility and decency are a legacy that will live on equally through the ages. The Barbados Tridents are privileged to be honouring Sir Garfield through CPL 2026, and our team — full of the next generation of Barbadian talent — will proudly carry his image on-field this season.”
The Tridents men open their season with five away fixtures, from Jamaica Kingsmen on 11th August through to St Kitts & Nevis Patriots on 1st September, before returning to Kensington Oval for their home campaign, running 5th–13th September.
The fixtures versus Trinbago, Jamaica and Guyana will be double-headers, with the Tridents men following WCPL fixtures for the Tridents women, as they chase an unprecedented WCPL four-peat.
