Brief scores: Trinbago Knight Riders 128/3 in 14.5 overs (Chris Green 1/20) beat Barbados Tridents 127/9 in 20 overs (Zachary Carter 28) by seven wickets.
Barbados Tridents were defeated by the Trinbago Knight Riders by seven wickets at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad on Friday. Trinbago's chase of 128 was powered by Sunil Narine's dynamic innings which left the Tridents with a tough road to victory.
With a cautious start, the Tridents posted 127/9 in their 20 overs. Despite Zachary Carter's promising performance with the bat, the batting lineup failed to capitalize during crucial phases.
The Tridents' innings began correctly with a 25-run stand between Carter and Shian Brathwaite. However, once Brathwaite fell in the 5th over, momentum began to slip as the batters could not establish a solid partnership throughout the middle overs.
Carter's 28 runs including three maximums were the highlight, but the lack of substantial partnerships saw them faltering as wickets fell at regular intervals, undermining their innings.
Kieron Pollard led the charge for the Knight Riders with 3/19, finding crucial breakthroughs to dismantle the Tridents' middle and lower order. Sunil Narine's economical spell of 2/14 further contributed to restricting the Tridents to a below-par score.
The Knight Riders opened with a strong partnership as Colin Munro and Sunil Narine forged a compelling 96-run stand. Narine was in a destructive mood, launching six maximums in his 33-ball 55, making quick inroads during the powerplay.
The Tridents did manage to pull things back marginally with Chris Green dismissing Munro and Ramon Simmonds removing Narine shortly thereafter. Despite these efforts, the runs scored during the powerplay had already given Trinbago a solid foundation.
Navigating through a minor blip with two quick wickets, Trinbago finished the chase with over five overs to spare. Their balance between aggression and consolidation ultimately proved telling in this encounter.
The Tridents will look to respond positively when they face St Kitts & Nevis Patriots at Warner Park in St Kitts on Tuesday.
