Barbados Tridents endured a six-wicket defeat to St Kitts & Nevis Patriots at Warner Park, St Kitts, on Tuesday in the Caribbean Premier League.
After posting a challenging total of 217/4 thanks to Quinton de Kock's blistering century, the Tridents could not contain the Patriots, who chased down the target with four balls to spare.
Quinton de Kock was in sublime form, scoring 106 off 57 balls with 11 boundaries and 6 maximums. Supported by Zachary Carter, who contributed 57 runs, they forged a vital 116-run partnership that steadied the Tridents after an early wicket.
Sherfane Rutherford's quickfire 26 off 16 balls, along with Chris Green's short burst of 18 in the closing overs, pushed the Tridents total to 217. However, despite the late acceleration, the Tridents could have used a few more at the death.
In reply, the Patriots capitalized on a brisk start, amassing 58 runs in the powerplay without losing a wicket. Johnson Charles played a stellar innings, striking a commanding 78 from 45 balls, anchoring the early part of the chase.
The 112-run opening partnership between Charles and Kyle Mayers set the tone for the remainder of the chase, building a strong foundation that eased pressure on the middle order.
In the final phase, Andre Fletcher and Wanindu Hasaranga provided fireworks with a quick 35-run stand in just 8 balls, sealing the chase emphatically and showcasing the depth of the Patriots' batting lineup.
Daniel Sams led the Tridents' bowling with 2/40, but overall, the attack struggled to contain the Patriots' aggressive batting, especially in the middle and death overs.
Looking ahead, the Barbados Tridents will face Trinbago Knight Riders at Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday.
