A thrilling encounter at Sabina Park saw the Barbados Tridents clinch a narrow 5-run victory over Jamaica Kingsmen on Tuesday.
The close contest was decided by an outstanding batting display from Brandon King, who top-scored with 73, and an impactful performance with the ball by Daniel Sams. The Kingsmen fell just short in the high-scoring affair.
The Tridents launched their innings with momentum, putting 67 runs on the board for the loss of one wicket by the end of the powerplay. Brandon King and Zachary Carter set the tone before Carter was caught off Jediah Blades in the 4th over.
Following the second wicket, which saw Quinton de Kock depart after scoring 42, Brandon King joined hands with Sherfane Rutherford to build a solid partnership of 93 runs. King eventually fell to Andre Russell, his innings pivotal in leading the Tridents to 206/3.
The Kingsmen's chase had a stuttering start as they lost three wickets for just 36 runs in the powerplay, with Daniel Sams and Chris Green causing damage early on.
Amid the early loss of wickets, Andre Russell showcased his power-hitting ability, smashing nine maximums. He added a brisk 72-run stand with Keacy Carty, but Sams returned to break it by dismissing Carty and Keemo Paul in the 14th over.
Despite a late flurry of runs from Vitel Orlando Lawes, who partnered with Russell to push the Kingsmen close, Daniel Sams and Ramon Simmonds kept their nerve at the death to restrict the opposition to 201/9.
Looking forward, the Barbados Tridents will play against Saint Lucia Kings at the Daren Sammy Stadium in St Lucia on Sunday.
