Barbados Tridents emerged victorious against the Saint Lucia Kings with a 9-run win at the Daren Sammy Stadium on Sunday.
Sherfane Rutherford powered the Tridents with a crucial 61-run knock. Despite a valiant effort from Ackeem Auguste, who top-scored for the Kings, the Tridents' bowlers maintained their composure to seal the win.
Opening the innings, the Tridents saw quick contributions from Quinton de Kock, who smashed 38 off 15 balls, and Brandon King, with 39 off 28. During the powerplay, they raced to 63/2, with de Kock falling in the 6th over.
Following a middle-overs consolidation, Rutherford took charge, contributing 61 runs with aggressive hitting, including five maximums. His partnership with Rivaldo Clarke added 79 runs, setting a challenging target for the Kings.
The Kings began well with Roston Chase and Jeremiah Johann sharing a 41-run stand. Chase's 34 off 21 deliveries kept their innings afloat during the powerplay, despite losing Johann in the 5th over to Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
Ackeem Auguste delivered an exceptional performance, scoring 63 from 34 balls, which included six maximums. However, his departure in the 14th over, bowled by Gudakesh Motie, was a turning point, reducing the Kings' momentum.
Gudakesh Motie starred with the ball, taking 3/22 in his four overs. His wickets in the middle and death overs were pivotal in restricting the Kings, including the dismissals of Chase and Auguste.
Barbados Tridents will face Antigua & Barbuda Falcons at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on Tuesday.
